Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM)
![]() The NOIM needs to be lodged at least one calendar before, and no more than 18 months before, the date of the ceremony.
You can download the latest NOIM in pdf format, from the Commonwealth Attorney General's page (link here). If you wish, when we meet, I can type the information in and print off the form for you to sign at our meeting. This means easy-to-read information and guarantees that the information you provide is what is included on all the forms. Required Documents and ID
Generally, each person is required to produce their birth certificate or passport as evidence of date and place of birth. Documents not in English should have an accredited translation attached. Each person also has to satisfy their celebrant as to their identity, so photo ID such as a Drivers Licence or Proof of Age Card is usually sighted. Stat Decs are only used in extreme circumstances, under guidance from Commonwealth AGs
If either party has been married before, then the divorce or death certificate needs to be sighted. If your situation is unusual, there are other documentation paths that can sort out problems. It should be noted that irregularities between birth certificates and marriage certificates may cause dramas with other identity document agencies. Minimum Mandatory Words
As a Religious Marriage Celebrant who performs civil ceremonies, I and the couple and their witnesses are bound by a very strict set of minimum words.
See Link to S. 45 & 46 of the Marriage Act, 1961. So long as the rest of the ceremony does not contradict that wording in anyway, the rest of the ceremony can be entirely bespoke. |
